Peer Support Groups

Recovery is easier when you're not doing it alone.

Led by people who've been there

One of the most powerful things about peer support groups is simple: being with people who understand. Not because they read about it, but because they've lived it.

At Turning Point Center of Central Vermont, our groups offer a consistent, welcoming space to connect, share experience and build the kind of community that sustains long-term recovery. Groups are peer-led and facilitated by trained and Licensed Peer Recovery Support Specialists — people who are in recovery themselves.

What to expect

Our groups tend to be small and intimate. You can participate at whatever level feels right: some people come to listen, others come to share. Both are welcome. You don't need to be enrolled in any program to attend, and no referral is required.

Peer support groups are not therapy sessions. They're community gatherings built around connection, honesty and shared experience. Many people find that attending regularly — even during stable periods in their recovery — helps them stay grounded, motivated, and connected.

Making Recovery Easier (MRE)

Making Recovery Easier is a structured five-week program — one session per week — that introduces the foundations of 12-step recovery.

Topics include:

  • Spirituality

  • Working with a sponsor

  • Navigating different personalities in recovery

  • Putting it all together

MRE is also required for Treatment Court participants in phase 2.

Open Hearts

Open Hearts is a peer support group specifically for family members, partners and loved ones of people navigating substance use recovery. Recovery affects the whole family, and this group provides a supportive, non-judgmental space for people who are showing up for someone they care about.

Meets Tuesdays 6:00–7:00 PM

Who are these groups for?

All of our groups — with the exception of Open Hearts — welcome people at any stage of recovery, using any pathway. You don't need a referral, an intake appointment or a specific amount of clean time to come through the door.

Open Hearts is specifically for family members and supporters, because the people who love someone in recovery deserve their own space too.
